Quotes about Ma Andersson's photography:

"The images are intriguing, insightful, inventive and shows that rare ability to think both inside and outside the box at the exact same time which the compositions reflect. This makes the photography both elusive yet obtainable at the same time.” Helen Robinson

“The images speak for themselves, no... they shout. They jump off your screen and demand your attention.”
Tiffany Follet

"I don't think Max is a photographer, he's much more than that. To me, he's an artist who has chosen photography as a medium to express himself and to convey a number of messages. One of them is finding beauty, often amazing beauty, in simple things: An ordinary building, a view of a promenade, or a bus shelter become art as a results of Max's Magic.”
John Sergeant

”… a genuine ability to capture detail and texture, transporting the viewer into the scene, and through his vision and technical skill he communicates what he sees and feels by fascinating and fresh angles, that show not only the architecture but also the effect of the structures.”
Benedict Sosa

“… precise spaces, the geometry and balance of his architectural shots; complex, often surreal moods captured by his landscapes; the timelessness, irony and nostalgia of his English scenes; careful use of colour and light.
Thomas Eagle

“… an amazing eye; a rare and blended combination of skill, passion, and talent – the ingredients for artistry and success. Plain and simple. Every shot he gets has some plural form: confluence of elements that bring the picture together in a cohesive, fresh, and artistic way. He has an identifiable signature feel to his images.
Sherry Glassman

"One eye open, and one closed; the open eye looking outwards, and the closed eye looking inwards."

I like to document buildings and places; often the images are void of people. To me, what is not actually present in an image is equally important to that which is immediately tangible or visible.

My photography has been described as severe or stark, however my main focus is how first we shape our buildings, and how later those environments shape us.

Because of this I think some aspects of my photography are almost forensic in nature; I am interested in the physical nature of things and what buildings and spaces have to say about us, what we do, and how we live.

My pictures may appear formal but I feel they depict things which are significant to me, on a personal level, and frequently show how man-made space can serve as a metaphor for the surrounding world and indeed for ourselves.
